Blog #40 – WHAT IS THE SHORTCUT FOR SUCCESS?
I am often asked if there is a shortcut for success and I rapidly answer yes. I explain that although it is counter intuitive, the secret for success is “patience”. When a large building is constructed, soil studies and other tests need to be done initially. Time is taken to make sure that there is a solid foundation. Once the foundation is completed, construction of the rest of the building can proceed quickly. Teachers and parents need to understand this simple concept. In mathematics, like in many other endeavors, it is important to develop a sound foundation. This should be conveyed to students and children. They should not skip steps. Errors will be minimized if all work is done in a step-by-step format. Success will be the outcome. This is what I did when teaching and what I have done when writing my instructional math workbooks, and with online tutoring that I currently do.
