Blog #28 – IMPACT OF PSYCHOLOGY IN TEACHING

Success in mathematics, like any other endeavor you learn, is highly connected to how it is taught. Psychology is also an integral part of that success. As a classroom teacher and as a current online tutor, I have made a conscious effort to create excitement in what I teach. I invite my students to join me on an adventure of discovery. By taking time to teach fundamental concepts and then building upon them to teach more complex concepts, I insure that my students feel successful every step of the way. I am constantly rewarding my students with well earned praise. I enthusiastically celebrate when they discover a new way of solving a problem. I focus on them having a positive experience throughout the entire learning process. I always make sure that my students see the joy that I get from teaching. Modeling how I feel about the learning process is instrumental in instilling in my students a positive self-image. If students believe in themselves, they will be able to reach high goals that you assist in setting for them. Soon they will be setting their own goals while demonstrating the infectious love of learning. Inspiring a love of constantly wanting to learn a new concept or a new way of doing things should be your ultimate goal as a teacher.
