Blog #51 – BEING PUNCTUAL
Something that everyone knows about me is that I am always punctual. Thus, it is not a surprise that I expect others to be punctual too. As a mathematics teacher and coach, I was always punctual. Punctuality is something that should be expected of anyone that is a professional. My time is very precious. I work diligently at being organized. Through the years, my students and their parents have valued how committed I am to excellence in everything that I do. During my teaching and coaching career, I had a routine that was established to maximize the things that I did. All my students knew that my routine had them in mind. All my life I have worked at being on task and maximizing the things that I did with the time that I had. After getting married and having a family, my time became more precious. Even my wife and children knew that I expected them to be punctual.
I am punctual in everything that I do. I know that everyone that depends on me, at a personal level or in the work that I do, appreciate that I am punctual. I value other people’s time. I make sure that I coordinate my schedule with theirs’ whether it is at a personal or professional level. The underlying factor that has influenced my decision to be punctual is respect. If I want to be respected, I also need to respect.
Although punctual, I do allow for times when I need to be flexible with my schedule. There are times when adjustments need to be made that are not under your control. It is important to inform others about the importance of punctuality. It is also important that they know that you can be flexible. As an online tutor, my students and their parents are familiar about my attitude toward punctuality and my willingness to be flexible. As a result, they and I have had a great relationship through the years.
