Blog #54 – STAYING MOTIVATED
After making my decision to become a teacher sixty years ago, I have been asked on numerous occasions how do I stay motivated. The simple answer is that I am doing what I love doing. Helping others is something that I learned from my parents and something that has become an integral part of who I am. Whether it is helping students, teachers, parents, family or friends, I do not expect anything in return.
Since 1965, I have worked at solving mathematics problems faster and more efficiently. I love mathematics and am committed to unveiling its magic through the materials that I write and by the people that I work with. Since elementary school, I have found that working and studying mathematics is mesmerizing. My work as a Number Sense, Calculator Applications and Mathematics coach has exposed me to a vast number of mathematics problems from elementary, middle and high schools. I have loved the challenge of finding fast and efficient ways to solve those problems. With the online tutoring that I am currently doing, I have had numerous opportunities to work with students from grades 2 through 12. During the course of preparing for the tutoring sessions, and sometimes during the tutoring sessions, I have had to develop the best ways of teaching a variety of mathematical concepts. Through the years, these challenges have kept me engaged and thus I have always been motivated to continue my dream to unveil the “Magic of Mathematics”.
Anyone that selects things that they love and are committed to doing the best that they can do with it, will always look forward to the future. This attitude should permeate everything that you do. I do this with relationships, hobbies and many other things too. As a result, I have felt happy about life in general and me in particular. Being happy is something that everyone pursues. When you are happy, you will find that you will always be motivated in a positive way.
