Blog #78 – HELPING THOSE AROUND YOU PERFORM BETTER
From a very young age, I have worked at helping those around me perform better. Whether it is teaching, coaching, parenting or anything else that I do, I love helping everyone around me. I have found that sharing my simple two rules for being happy with students, parents, children, teachers, family, friends and other people has impacted their lives in a positive way. My advice to everyone is that they do what they enjoy. I also tell them that they will always be successful if they accept that all is expected of them is to do their best.
My children are prime examples of individuals that changed careers after realizing that they would be happier doing something else. When growing up, I tried modeling in different ways that being happy was within their reach if they integrated the two simple rules that I used. I am so proud of the lives they currently have. Two of my children are now parents, and they are good role models for their children. My daughter is now pursuing her passion and is very happy in the relationship she is in. Each has learned to self analyze, and has worked at improving in everything that they do.
Students that I have taught or coached have felt successful because each has learned that success can be measured by their development in the knowledge that they acquire, and in the gains that they make in their performances at tournaments that they attend. They have learned that their classroom experiences have translated into success in their careers and the relationships that they have with people.
Parents have seen their children develop a love of learning in general and mathematics in particular. They have witnessed that their children were less stressed in the classroom and at contests (Number Sense, Calculator Applications and Mathematics) because they focused on improving not getting perfect scores or winning awards. Parents saw that their relationships with their children were improved. Their children communicated better and were eager to learn. Those that competed loved the opportunities to develop relationships with members of their team and competitors.
Friends and individuals that I communicate with soon learn that I am committed to helping them. They learn that I am unselfish. I am committed to providing advice that has their interests at heart. I have dedicated my life to providing others with information about learning and life. I do my best not to tell others what to do. I prefer answering questions and allowing people to make their own decisions.
