Blog #82 – WORDS MATTER
Every responsible individual needs to be aware that spoken or written words matter. What you say or write can impact the lives of others. Your goal is to be careful with what you say or write. Be aware that you have the ability to improve or destroy the lives of many people.
As I teacher, I would not answer questions sarcastically. I made it a point of teaching students with respect. I worked at developing the self worth of every student. I tried to be a positive role model, and improve each student’s confidence. I would help students improve their performances by providing constructive criticism. I thought carefully of what I said or what I wrote. In putting myself in some else’s shoes, I treated others the way that I wanted to be treated. If I unintentionally said anything that was viewed as being negative, I apologized. I understood the importance of spoken and written words.
As an individual, I applied what I practiced in the classroom. I have always been unselfish. I care a lot about others. I want to have a positive impact on everyone. Whether it is relationships with my family, with friends, with parents or my peers, I am constantly being mindful of what I say or write. As I recall my years growing up, I was blessed with individuals that encouraged me to do the things that I loved. I also learned to always do my best. Following these two simple rules has brought joy to my life. The words that I heard or read have made me the person that I am today. I am indebted to family, friends and teachers for their words of encouragement. Since becoming a teacher, I have devoted my life to helping others. My decision to share my knowledge was influenced by seeing how words can have a positive impact on others. This is why I love being a presenter at workshops. It is also why I love writing instructional mathematics workbooks.
